Age: 2 Sex: neutered male Weight: 18 pounds Height: 19 inches to shoulders Ears: natural Tail: natural Hi, Im Pogo. I bet you cant guess show I got my name? When I first meet someone, well, even for people I know, I stand in front of them and bounce up and down in front of them. My foster mom thought I looked like I was standing on a pogo stick and well, the name stuck. Friends of Penny saved me from a horrible life, I dont really like to think about it, but they said it helps you understand who I am today. Im going to let them tell you about it though (thinking of it makes me sad). When we first brought Pogo into rescue we thought he may have been a bait dog, but now we am more inclined to believe he was left outside in a very poor area. His body has tons of scars (from nose to rump, including his legs). His fur was then and course. Now, with the proper diet and regular meals his fur is thick and the softest fur I have ever felt. We are amazed at how much he loves people, its almost as if he never had any attention paid to him prior to coming into rescue. As Pogo said, when he first meets you (regardless of how long he has known you) he jumps and jumps on you and wants to give you kisses. We are working on the jumping (he almost has down mastered) and showing him lots of love. He will also love nip you. He puts his mouth on you but does not bite down it is not aggression. Its almost as if he his grabbing you hand and saying hey pay attention to me. A firm vocal correction and he stops. Now let us give you a warning, if he sees you seated he will get in your lap. Pogo believes he is a lap dog. He is all about sitting either on your lap (or right next to you), and laying his body across your legs. He will settle down and just stay there for hours. He just so badly wants to be near people and be petted (and you cannot resist touching his soft fur). Pogo is learning that other dogs are okay. His thing is he gets so excited to see them and he doesnt know how to play. He gets so excited he jumps all around. We are working on him with this though. He has shown no aggression in his foster home with other dogs, its purely just that he doesnt know how to play. We had his out with Peanut Butter (yup, the tiny little min pin) and she dominated him. A simple growl and look from her when he was jumping around her and he was on his back. We believe Pogo has great potential, he just needs a home that understand that he needs some help becoming the best possible fur kid he can be. Obedience classes would be great for him. He also needs a home that can provide him with a lot of exercise to burn off his energy lots of walks and playtime is a must. The amazing thing is Pogo knows what a tennis ball is and if you throw it he will bring it back. Pogo is up to date on all his shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.
